A 26-year-old man needed several stitches to head lacerations after being viciously attacked in a Hamilton Burger King yesterday.
The man was sitting at a table while his wife was in a queue waiting to order when he was attacked by another man about 1pm.
Detective Sergeant Dave Grace of Hamilton police said the Ward St Burger King was very busy at the time, and the other customers were "shocked and amazed" by the attack.
"The victim believes he was assaulted with a weapon, but we've yet to confirm that," Mr Grace said.
The victim was taken by ambulance to Waikato Hospital, where he was treated and discharged. He needed stitches to his head, although his wounds were not considered too serious.
Police have spoken to a number of witnesses at the scene, and those interviews would be reviewed today.
Mr Grace said the attacker and a woman left the restaurant and got into a vehicle, believed to be a white medium sized four-door sedan.
They fled the scene along Ward St towards Hamilton Girls' High School .
The attacker and his companion are both described as Polynesian or Maori.
Hamilton police asked anyone with information to contact them.
