A man suffered a fractured hip after he was struck by a car in a hit-and-run incident in Christchurch early this morning.
Police said the car hit the man from behind at the corner of Tuam St and Nursery Rd in Philllipstown about 4am.
Another man walking with him narrowly avoided being hit.
Detective Sergeant Richard Quested said the injured pedestrian suffered a fractured hip.
He was treated at Christchurch Hospital and has since been discharged.
