A man has been taken to hospital after suffering facial injuries when a horse kicked a wooden gate off its hinges which then hit him in the face.
Emergency services responded to the incident at 10am yesterday on a farm inland from Porangahau, Hawkes Bay.
The 45-year-old was taken to Hawke's Bay Fallen Soldiers' Memorial Hospital for treatment.
A Lowe Corporation Rescue Helicopter spokeswoman said the man's injuries had been "pretty severe" but were not life threatening.
