A 60-year-old man was flown by the Westpac Rescue Helicopter to Auckland City Hospital yesterday after a 17-tonne trench-digging machine ran over his right leg.
The man had been laying cables near Manaia, Coromandel, when the accident happened.
He was reported to be in a moderate condition with fractures to his lower leg.
