A 41-year-old man is in a serious but stable condition in Masterton Hospital with stab wounds following an incident in Carterton last night.
Officer in charge of the Wairarapa CIB Detective Senior Sergeant Sean Hansen says around 10:20pm last night, an altercation took place between the victim and another male, outside an address in Kent Street.
"As a result, the victim received stab wounds to his chest and upper abdomen area and was transported to Masterton Hospital where he remains in the High Dependency Unit in a serious but stable condition. He has been unable to speak with Police at this time."
A scene examination has been carried out by Police and interviews with witnesses will continue throughout the course of today.
Detective Senior Sergeant Sean Hansen says "I'd urge anyone who was in the vicinity of Kent Street, near Paua World late last night to come forward and speak to Police on (06) 3600 300 or phone Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111."
