A man found dead in a New Lynn home on Sunday had complained of a headache following a fight on Friday night.
Raymond Frank Lelisi was found dead in a bed at a relative's house.
A post-mortem yesterday was inconclusive as to how he died but the case is being treated as suspicious.
Detective Senior Sergeant Greg Cramer said Mr Lelisi was with friends at the Spider Bar in Avondale on Friday night. At about 11pm the 30-year-old Mt Roskill welder and his friends were involved in a minor car accident with another group in the bar's carpark.
An argument broke out between the two groups which developed into a fight.
Mr Lelisi is understood to have left the bar carpark on foot with a relative.
On Saturday he went to work and reportedly complained of having a headache. Mr Lelisi died in bed at a relative's Fruitvale Rd address that night but wasn't found until Sunday afternoon.
Police now want to hear from anyone who went to the Spider Bar on Friday night, especially those who saw the car accident or fight. They also want to hear from the driver of the other car that was involved in the accident.
That man is described as Polynesian, 1.7m tall, in his late 30s, of stocky build with short black hair. He had a tribal tattoo band on his left arm, a tattoo on his neck and a small star tattooed next to his nose. He was driving a mid to late-1990s Nissan Bluebird. Its rear indicator lens was cracked during the accident. Anyone with information can call police on (09) 302 6400.
