A man is in custody after a police armed offenders squad callout in which Kerikeri residents were evacuated from their homes.
Police said they were called to a house south of Kerikeri, off State Highway 10, after receiving reports a man was holding a firearm about 11am.
Local staff and the police armed offenders squad assisted attended.
Police said cordons were set up, and neighbours were evacuated from their homes.
After speaking with police, a 53-year-old man was caught without incident about 3pm.
