A 50-year-old Auckland man is in a critical condition with head injuries after an assault in an inner city Wellington hotel.
The victim was in an altercation with another man known to him at the hotel at around 3:30am yesterday morning, police said.
Acting detective senior sergeant Jason Perry said the victim had gone through surgery overnight and remained in a critical condition.
A 35-year-old Auckland man was appearing in the Wellington District Court today charged with assault.
Police were continuing an investigation.
