However, police say the two incidents are unrelated.
Circumstances surrounding the latest incident are still being pieced together and Detective Inspector Tofilau Faa Va'aelua said a police presence remains in the area.
"We are speaking to a number of people in close proximity to the address where this has occurred," Va'aelua said.
"While no one has been arrested at this stage, we'd like to reassure the public that we are not looking for anyone else and a number of people are assisting us with our enquiries."
Earlier today, the Herald was told armed police arrested a man on Clarks Beach Rd, Waiau Pa about 2.30pm.
A witness said a dramatic arrest unfolded on a fleeing driver, involving armed police.
"All of a sudden about half a dozen police cars came from all angles and surrounded this car," the witness said.
"They arrested the one man who was in the car. It was quite dramatic, some of the cops had rifles."
The witness said it had been a "quiet Sunday afternoon" up until that point, and he had no idea why the man was arrested.
Meanwhile, a homicide investigation has been launched following the death of the man in Clover Park.
Police and ambulance were called to Darnell Crescent about 10.30pm.
The cause of death will be the subject of a post mortem examination but it appears the victim suffered a gunshot wound, police said.
No arrests have yet been made.
This morning police were guarding the area at Darnell Crescent while a scene examination was conducted.
"We are trying to establish the circumstances of what happened and why," Va'aelua said.
"The community's safety is our top priority and we wish to reassure members of the public that there is no threat to their safety.
