KEY POINTS:
A man was remanded in custody when he appeared in Hamilton District Court yesterday in relation to a hit and run in Hamilton on Sunday.
Michael James Bell, a 33-year-old Cambridge labourer, entered no plea to charges of making a false statement to police and failing to stop and ascertain injury after an accident.
The Waikato Times reported today that Judge Arthur Tompkins remanded Bell in custody until tomorrow for a bail application hearing.
The crash at the intersection of Manchester Place and Te Rapa Road left Hamilton woman Bianca Forster, 25, with serious head injuries and several broken bones. She is recovering in Waikato Hospital.
Bell, who handed himself into police on Tuesday, is also facing charges relating to an incident in Hamilton on June 28. Those charges include driving with excess breath alcohol, possessing a knife and possessing cannabis and a cannabis "bong".
