KEY POINTS:
A man charged with murder and arson smiled and waved to the public gallery in Hamilton District Court today.
Jamie Stewart Davies, 30, of Raglan, was charged after a body was found in his burnt house in Ngaruawahia last Friday.
Ngaruawahia man Allan Wallace Davies, 57, died before the fire began in the Struve Street house.
It is believed the two are related.
Jamie Davies was remanded in custody by community magistrate Pat Oettli to reappear on October 18.
Detective Senior Sergeant Greg Nicholls, from the Hamilton CIB, said police were still after help from the public.
"We still want to hear from anyone who saw a man dressed in trousers and a chequered shirt walking in the vicinity of Struve St between 5.30am and 7.30am on Friday.
"The man was also seen in the Ngaruawahia township between 7.30am and 10.45am and we want to hear from anyone who may have seen him," he said.
Allan Davies was waiting to be sentenced later this month after he was convicted on historic sex charges.
