A 30-year-old man has appeared in Auckland District Court over the alleged abduction of a woman at an Auckland motel yesterday afternoon.
The man, originally from Hong Kong but now living in Mt Wellington, Auckland, was charged with abduction, attempted rape, aggravated injury, threatening to kill, and theft.
He was remanded without plea until Tuesday so a Cantonese interpreter could be found to assist him.
The man was granted interim name suppression until he reappears so he could inform his family.
The charges arose after a 29-year-old woman told police she was kidnapped at about midday on Sunday and held against her will at a motel in suburban Greenlane for five hours before escaping.
She ran naked and partially bound screaming for help after escaping.
