An 18-year-old man charged with murdering a teenage girl in her home on Auckland's North Shore has appeared in court.
Akshay Anand Chand appeared in North Shore District Court this morning charged with murdering Christie Marceau in her home early yesterday morning.
He was remanded in custody until November 29.
Bail and name suppression were not sought.
Police were called to the house about 7.15am after neighbours reported hearing screaming.
The young woman's body was found in the house and an 18-year-old man at the property when police arrived was taken into custody soon after.
Detective Senior Sergeant Kim Libby would not say yesterday how the woman died or where in the house she was found.
But he confirmed the accused was known to the dead woman.
"He did know her, but they weren't in a relationship though,'' Mr Libby said.
He said her immediate family had been informed. Her father, who had been overseas, was rushing home via Australia last night.
A post-mortem examination would be done today.
