Man in court accused of prostitute’s murder

A 30-year-old man appeared in Christchurch District Court this morning charged with the murder of Christchurch prostitute Suzie Sutherland.

Jule Patrick Burns, 30, of Christchurch, was remanded in custody without plea to reappear on June 8.

The court appearance follows the discovery of the naked body of 36-year-old prostitute Susan Gayle Sutherland in a vacant section in Peterborough St, in the central city, on the morning of April 16.

Burns, a South African by birth, did not seek name suppression.
