Man in court accused of driving into teens

A Mt Maunganui man facing charges after a vehicle ploughed into a group of teenagers in Whangamata on Saturday has briefly appeared in court.

Dean Yaxley entered no pleas to three counts of driving with excess breath alcohol causing injury, three counts of dangerous driving causing injury and driving with excess breath alcohol.

The 22-year-old will be back in court later this month.

Two of the injured teenagers; 18-year-old Nigel Fluharty and 15-year-old Mary-Beth Wood, remain in Waikato Hospital with moderate to serious injuries.
