The man who had his stomach ripped open while setting up for a boat race is home from hospital and should be back at work within six weeks.
Stephen Appleby said he was recovering well and remembers everything about the accident.
"I'm doing okay. I'm recovering well but I don't really want to talk about what happened," Appleby, 28, said.
Appleby's co-driver, Darren Milne, 27, was with him when he was impaled by the anchor they were attaching to a buoy in the surf during the Thundercat National Championships in Mount Maunganui on January 4.
The grappling anchor was thrown against him by a wave, piercing his abdomen.
