Man hurt in paragliding accident

A Porirua man is recovering this afternoon after injuring his lower back in a paragliding accident.

The 25-year-old got caught in a down-draught while paragliding north of Makara Beach this morning, causing him to fall six metres to the ground.

The Wellington based Westpac Rescue Helicopter was called and managed to winch the man out of the area.

He is currently being assessed and treated at Wellington Hospital's Emergency Department.
