A Christchurch man was taken to Nelson Hospital with serious injuries today after falling from the second storey of the Whakatu Hotel in Nelson.
Constable Vaughan Joyce, of Nelson police, said the 27-year-old man fell 9m from the balcony of the hotel at 3am.
Nelson St John Ambulance team manager Gary Tobin said the man suffered extensive injuries to his face, arms and legs in the fall.
He was uncertain how the man fell over the balcony and Nelson Hospital was unavailable for comment on his condition this morning.
Police are investigating the cause of the accident.
