A 46-year-old man is in Wellington Hospital following a stabbing in Kilbirnie yesterday afternoon.
Police were called to Bay Road, shortly after 2.30pm after one man had stabbed another outside the shops.
Detective Sergeant Mike Priston said a 64-year-old had been charged with wounding with intent to cause grievous bodily harm and was due to appear in the Wellington District Court today.
The victim was in a stable condition after receiving stab wounds to the chest and back, he said.
Mr Priston said several people intervened during the incident and police were keen to hear from anyone who witnessed the attack.
