A 54-year-old Hawke's Bay is in hospital with head injuries after an assault in Napier last night.
Police said he was found by a member of public lying in a grassed area near the sunken gardens about 10.15pm.
CIB said the injuries were not thought to be life threatening.
A detailed scene examination is underway.
