A man has been hospitalised with burns and cuts after a caravan was deliberately set alight in Ashburton last night.
Emergency services were called to the fire at a Suffolk St property about 10.30pm.
The sole occupant of the caravan, a man in his 40s, was taken to Ashburton Hospital where he is in a stable condition with non life-threatening injuries.
Nobody in the house at the property was injured.
Police said the caravan was destroyed in the blaze.
Fire Safety officers and police were today examining the scene and investigations were continuing.
Police are urging anyone with information on the fire to contact them.
Earlier this month in Golden Bay at the top of the South Island, a man allegedly attempted to set alight a caravan with a freedom-camping couple inside. He has been charged with two counts of attempted murder.
