KEY POINTS:
Buildings have been evacuated and a man is in hospital following an ammonia leak in south Auckland.
Emergency services were called to the incident in Mangere after a toxic substance, understood to contain ammonia, spilled from a cracked pipe at a factory on the corner of Aintree Avenue and Ascot Rd, a Northern Fire Communications centre spokesman said.
He said fire fighters had plugged the leak and were clearing toxic fumes from the building.
One man was taken to hospital after being exposed to the fumes.
The building and others in the area were evacuated following the incident, which happened at about 1pm.
