A 70-year-old man is being treated at Waikato Hospital after he was struck by a tree branch.
The man had walked outside his house to where trees were being trimmed and was hit on the head by a branching falling 10 metres above.
St John staff found the man was highly agitated and combative and transported him to Matamata where he was met by the Waikato Westpac Helicopter.
The man also experienced breathing trouble and he and his wife were flown to Waikato Hospital.
The man remains in a critical condition at Waikato Hospital's Intensive Care Unit.
