The man killed when he was hit by a truck while getting out of a car near Christchurch yesterday has been named by police.
Grant Edward Cormack Smith, a 43-year-old farmer who lived in the Yaldhurst area, was a passenger in a car that had pulled over to the side of Pound Rd, in the Yaldhurst area outside of Christchurch around 12.10pm yesterday.
It is believed he had just stepped out of the vehicle when it was hit by a small truck travelling south.
He was confirmed dead at the scene by ambulance staff.
Inquiries into the accident are continuing.
