Police believe they've identified the man hit and killed by a train in Te Kuiti early this morning.
Police say the accident happened at 1.30am at the northern end of the Waikato town near Hospital Road and wasn't near any railway crossing.
On arrival at the scene, emergency services found a man had been struck and killed.
Police are not looking for anyone else in relation to what has occurred and the death has been reported to the Coroner.
Rail traffic on the Main Trunk Line was stopped and did not resume until about 7am.
