A man has been seriously wounded after being shot in the leg in suburban Christchurch.
A police spokeswoman confirmed to the Herald this morning the man's injury was "caused by a firearm". She was unable to provide any further updates about the shooting, on a residential street in Hornby, Christchurch.
Newstalk ZB reporter Josh Price said last night there was a heavy police presence on Dickson Cres in Hornby. A section of the road was closed off and residents were not being allowed into their homes.
He said there were four police vehicles and numerous officers.
The man has been taken to hospital and police are making inquiries. The public is not thought to be at risk.
