A man has handed himself into police after after a newspaper published his photo in relation to the theft of security camera which had captured an image of the thief.
The 29-year-old had the stolen camera with him when he walked into New Plymouth police station yesterday afternoon, Constable Craig O'Doherty told the Taranaki Daily News.
He allegedly stole the camera last week after breaking into a New Plymouth shopping centre carpark to retrieve his vehicle which was locked in and realised he was being filmed.
Police allege he ripped out the security camera, without knowing footage of him had already been saved on the system's hard-drive.
He will appear in New Plymouth District Court today charged with burglary.
