A man has handed himself in after a crash left live power lines dangling over the rear entrance of the Huntly Fire Station.
North Waikato police sergeant Neil Mansill said a 41-year-old man handed himself in at the Huntly Police Station yesterday.
He said the crash involved a south bound vehicle on Huntly's Ralph St about 8.20pm on Saturday, which hit a power pole, leaving live wires dangling over the station. The driver fled the scene.
"Following media coverage over recent days a 41-year-old man handed himself in to the Huntly Police Station this afternoon after relatives realised he was the person responsible," Mr Mansill said.
"This positive result reflects very well on Huntly's good community spirit and the driver is now helping Police with their enquiries."
