It might have been April 1 but there was only one fool around when a man riding a stolen bike with no helmet on 'flipped the bird' to two police officers in Porirua yesterday.
Detective Senior Sergeant Mike Oxnam said police stopped the man after the incident about 7.45am, only to find the bike he was riding had allegedly been stolen from a garage in the Wellington suburb of Miramar.
"Checks established the man had a warrant for his arrest and a search of his bags showed he was in the possession of stolen property from the Miramar address and from two thefts from vehicles," Mr Oxnam said.
It then emerged the man had allegedly broken into up to 50 vehicles in the Plimmerton, Whitby, Papakowhai, Tawa and Miramar areas.
"The offender will most likely be regretting his April Fools Day joke but on a serious note, this offender always targeted insecure vehicles," Mr Oxnam said.
