KEY POINTS:
A Palmerston North man has been jailed for 15 years for his part in the brutal murder of Stanley Waipouri in 2006.
Ashley Arnopp, 21, was sentenced by Justice Alan MacKenzie in the High Court at Palmerston North today.
Arnopp pleaded guilty part-way through the murder trial held in Palmerston in December last year. Mr Waipouri died of extensive head and neck injuries in December, 2006.
Arnopp's co-accused, Andre Gilling, 18, who denied murdering Mr Waipouri, is to face a re-trial later this year after the jury in the original trial delivered a hung verdict.
During the trial the court was told Arnopp and Gilling consumed cannabis, party pills and alcohol before the attack on Mr Waipouri.
The victim's body was found covered in blood and badly beaten on his lounge floor.
The tip of Mr Waipouri's penis was cut off and he also had injuries to his ears and nipples.
