Man gets 11 years for Auckland murder

A 20-year-old man who stabbed a man to death in suburban Auckland in December 2007 will spend at least 11 years in jail for the murder.

Another man, also 20, was sentenced to six years imprisonment for manslaughter following a sentencing in the High Court in Auckland today.

The men, whose names are suppressed, were found guilty in a jury trial last year after Daryl Graydon, 26, was killed during a night out in Howick, southeast Auckland.

The man who stabbed Mr Graydon was found guilty of murder on an 11-1 majority verdict, while the other man was found guilty of his manslaughter.

Both were found not guilty of the attempted murder of Mr Graydon's colleague Campbell Sussex and not guilty of an alternative charge of attempting to cause him grievous bodily harm.
