Man found lying on road dies in hospital

A Wellington man who was taken to hospital with serious head injuries last weekend has died, and police are treating his death as a homicide.

The 49-year-old man was taken to hospital in a serious condition last Saturday after he was found lying on Rossiter Street in Linden, Tawa, with head injuries.

The man died in Wellington Hospital early today, and police were now treating his death as a homicide, Detective Senior Sergeant Grant Ferguson said.

Mr Ferguson said it was devastating news for the victim's family heading into Christmas.

He said police were continuing with their investigation and a post-mortem examination would take place today.

"There are people out there who have information that can assist Police and the family in establishing what has happened.

"These people are encouraged to come forward, and do the right thing by the family and the community."

Mr Ferguson said police were focusing on the identification and movement of people on Rossiter Street on the evening of Saturday December 20.

"We are aware there were several festive events occurring in Rossiter Street during the evening and would like to hear from everyone that attended these events as we try and piece together the exact circumstances of this tragedy."
