An unidentified man is in Auckland Hospital with serious head injuries after being found unconscious in a pool of blood at a bus stop in Manukau City.
Detective Sergeant Ross Ellwood, of Mangere police, told NZPA the man in his 20s was in a serious but stable condition after apparently being the victim of a serious assault about 11pm last night.
The bus stop was outside the Clendon Mobil service station and video surveillance footage from there and the nearby Clendon Family Inn would be viewed to try to determine what had happened, he said.
The man had bought some food from the service station about 30 minutes before being found injured by a member of the public.
Mr Ellwood said some of the surrounding area had been cordoned and police expected their inquiries and scene examination to continue for much of the day.
