KEY POINTS:
A man has been found guilty in Gisborne of murdering an Indian overstayer 15 years ago.
Paul Joseph Cameron, 38, was sentenced to life imprisonment by Justice Judith Potter after a High Court jury found him guilty of murdering Balwinder "Babu" Singh.
Mr Singh went missing in 1993.
Two forestry workers found his remains in the Wharerata Forest, southwest of Gisborne, in November 2005 after spotting a pair of shoes with bones sticking out of them.
The crown said that Cameron shot dead Mr Singh, his mother's boyfriend, although no gunshot wound was found on the remains.
The defence said that if it could not be proven that Mr Singh died due to a gunshot wound, then the crown's case failed.
The jury went out at 12.30pm yesterday, before retiring at 10pm and returning this morning.
