KEY POINTS:
The man whose decomposed body was found on a fishing trawler was reported missing a year and a half ago.
Nathan Brown's body was found by crew carrying out maintenance work in a small anchor chain locker in the trawler, while it was at the Port of Napier last week.
Detective Senior Sergeant Bill Gregory says the Auckland fisherman went missing in March last year and his disappearance was reported to police a few days later by family.
He says police believe Mr Brown hid in the chain locker.
The matter has been referred to the coroner.
