KEY POINTS:
Police have named a Tokoroa man found dead in suspicious circumstances today.
He was 25-year-old Kupa Tearoa whose body was found in a house in the central North Island town about 7.30am.
Earlier reports said ambulance officers were called to a possible stabbing.
Taupo CIB officer Detective Senior Sergeant Todd Pierce said the dead man lived at the house with other family members.
The exact cause of death had yet to be established and family members were helping police with piecing together the man's movements since last night, when he was last seen alive.
Police and forensic scientists were carrying out a detailed scene examination.
"A number of witnesses have already been spoken to as police continue to attempt to reconstruct the events prior to the man's death," Mr Pierce said.
A post mortem examination would be carried out tomorrow afternoon in Auckland.
Mr Pierce said a cordon around the property and neighbouring streets remained in place, however police were confident that the size of the cordon would be reduced later this evening.
