Man found dead in car near Mt Cook

A man has died in a car crash near Mt Cook National Park this morning.

Police said they found a the man's body in a car off the Tasman Valley Rd after being told of the crash at 8:48am.

The dead man was the only occupant of the car and initial indications were there were no other vehicles involved in the crash, police said.

Tasman Valley Rd was closed while the police serious crash unit completed a scene examination.
