The man found dead in Auckland's Orakei Reserve on Saturday has been named as 36-year-old Socksay Chansy.
Mr Chansy recently returned to New Zealand after a long period living overseas.
Police are appealing for sightings of Mr Chansy who was last seen in Auckland on April 25 in Grafton, before his body was found on Saturday in the Okahu Bay reserve.
"Mr Chansy was estranged from his family and we believe he had been living and sleeping rough in the central Auckland area in the days or weeks following his last confirmed sighting on April 25," Detective Senior Sergeant Paul Newman said.
"We're hoping that by releasing his photo someone will recognise him and may be able to let us know if they had seen him in Auckland since April 25."
