KEY POINTS:
A man was this afternoon found dead at a lifestyle block southwest of Auckland after allegedly threatening family members with a firearm.
The 46-year-old's body was discovered by armed offenders squad members in a shed at the property in Whiri Whiri Road, Waiuku, about 40km southwest of Auckland.
Detective Inspector Jim Gallagher said there was nothing suspicious about the death and it was extremely unlikely any charges would be laid.
He would not say how the man died but no weapon was involved.
Mr Gallagher said police were notified about 11.30am after the man allegedly threatened members of his family with a firearm.
He said three adult children connected to the man and the woman were at the address.
"One of the adult children managed to leave the address and raise the alarm," Mr Gallagher told NZPA.
Police arrived on the scene first, and the armed offenders squad arrived shortly afterwards.
"We did not make contact with the man," Mr Gallagher said.
"It is believed that it was very early on that he died, possibly before police arrived but if not then soon afterwards.
Mr Gallagher said the woman had been taken to Middlemore Hospital for examination but her physical injuries were not serious and she was unlikely to be hospitalised.
The other three people present were talking to police.
Detectives were examining the scene this afternoon, and a postmortem will take place tomorrow.
