A young man was flung through the boot of a station wagon when it crashed near Te Aroha, north east of Hamilton this morning, suffering serious injuries.
Contrary to other media reports which said the Tauranga man died, the 21-year-old was taken by ambulance to Waikato Hospital while the driver and another occupant, both from Te Aroha, suffered only minor injuries.
Police said speed and alcohol were suspected to be factors in the 5.50am crash on Ngutumanga Rd, north of Waihou.
