A man was trampled by a bull - believed to have weighed up to 500kg - at a farm in Peel Forest, Canterbury this morning.
A St John Ambulance communications spokesman said emergency services were alerted to the incident - at Mount Peel Station - at 8.08am and took the man to Timaru Hospital with moderate injuries.
The accident occurred in cattle yards on the Rangitata Gorge Road property. It's believed the victim was herding cattle when one of the beasts struck him.
He was flown to hospital by the Westpac Rescue Helicopter from Christchurch and it's understood he suffered back, chest and head injuries.
Last year, 15 people died in agriculture-related incidents, down from 19 in 2010.
