Inappropriate emails have cost the former South Canterbury rugby development officer $2000.
In Timaru District Court yesterday, Stephen Craig Kotua, 29, of Timaru, pleaded guilty to three charges of misusing a telephone.
Kotua was ordered to pay $2000 to South Canterbury senior men's coach Ken Wills and his wife Sue for the emotional harm he caused them.
The Timaru Herald reported today that the court was told Kotua sent three emails to Mrs Wills alleging that her husband was having an affair with Kotua's wife.
He had no excuse for his offending other than to say he was "pissed off" at the time.
In his defence, duty solicitor Maria Green said Kotua had apologised to Mrs Wills and had resigned from his position with the rugby union.
Judge Colin Doherty said that Kotua's actions had caused the couple to go through emotional turmoil.
