KEY POINTS:
A 28-year-old Wanganui man is fighting for his life after a violent incident in the suburb of Castlecliff last night.
Earlier reports were that the man had died but police said his condition was critical.
They would not release any details of the 10pm incident.
A team of 15 police and forensic scientists are examining the Cross St scene and talking to family and witnesses.
It is understood the victim may have been bashed and pushed out of a moving vehicle, or tipped out of a vehicle.
Detective Inspector Sue Schwalger, of police central districts, said officers had few details about what had happened and wanted to talk to anyone who had any information.
