An 89-year-old New Zealand man accused of historical sex charges dating back 52 years has been arrested after allegedly fleeing to Australia.
The elderly man had been due to appear at Christchurch District Court this morning on historic sex charges.
He faces four charges of indecencies and rape of a girl aged under 12 between January 1, 1963 and December 31, 1970.
When the man's case was called this morning, police prosecutor Sergeant Paul Simcox told Judge Brian Callaghan that the man had breached his bail and left the country.
He was arrested in Australia and was in custody before being sent back to New Zealand. He is due back in the country this afternoon.
