A Westport man accused of 15 child pornography charges has succeeded in keeping his identity secret for the time being.
The 51-year-old is alleged to have been found in the possession of pornographic images of boys between the ages of four and 12 performing sex acts on adults, or having sexual acts committed on them.
The man first appeared before Judge Kevin Phillips in Greymouth District Court on Tuesday, when he made no plea to the counts.
His request then for name suppression was met with a firm denial; the judge said the community had a right to know his details.
However, back in court on Friday, lawyer Eymard Bradley, acting on instructions from the man's Auckland barrister, said an appeal against the judge's decision would be filed, forcing Judge Phillips to grant interim suppression to 10am on Friday.
