Palmerston North detectives have arrested a man in relation to an alleged abduction at the weekend.
Detective Gary Milligan said the man, 36, had been charged with abduction, sexual violation, threatening to kill and assault with intent to commit sexual violation.
The complainant was a woman, 23, who was known to the man, Mr Milligan said.
It is alleged that on Sunday he took the woman from a Palmerston North house, held her against her will and then assaulted and sexually violated her.
"The (alleged) incident was prolonged and occurred during the day and into the evening," Mr Milligan said in a statement.
On Monday the woman was able to leave the address and contacted police.
The man was due to appear in Palmerston North District Court today.
