A man who sparked an armed offenders squad operation yesterday managed to evade police and drove to Invercargill police station to hand himself in.
The AOS was called out after a man allegedly confronted another man with a gun in Mataura yesterday afternoon, The Southland Times reported.
Streets were cordoned off around an Albion Street house while police hunted the man
But the man had driven himself to Invercargill and surrendered to police.
His car and house was searched for guns but nothing found.
Police said the man would appear in Invercargill District Court today on charges relating to the incident.
