The man accused of robbing an 86 year-old pensioner and leaving her with a fractured pelvis and cuts and bruises will appear in court today.
Patricia Burrows had been at the supermarket buying milk when a man grabbed her, lifted her off her feet and dumped her on the concrete before taking off with her handbag on December 3.
Armed police this morning arrested a 35 year-old man and charged him with the attack. He will appear in the Christchurch District Court this morning charged with aggravated robbery.
Detective Sergeant Ross Tarawhiti said the Mrs Burrows is still in Christchurch Hospital, recovering from the "vicious attack".
"She is relieved this man has now been finally apprehended," Mr Tarawhiti said.
He thanked the people who helped Mrs Burrows on the day of the attack and who have since sent her get well cards.
"We can now all feel a little bit safer as a result of this arrest," Mr Tarawhiti said.
