KEY POINTS:
A 36-year-old man drowned in the Waiwhakaiho River at Merrilands Domain, in New Plymouth, yesterday afternoon.
Police said the man had been swimming with a group who had travelled to New Plymouth from Porirua.
The man became separated from the group after swimming for about 30 minutes and his body was found downstream about 55 minutes later.
