KEY POINTS:
A man is dead after CPR failed to revive him when he was pulled from Auckland's Manukau Harbour today.
He was one of two men picked up by a private launch off Cornwallis Wharf, on the harbour's northern shores, about 8.30am.
The two men were taken to an ambulance, Coastguard Northern Region duty officer Jo Ottey said.
One was pronounced dead and the other was taken to hospital but was not in a life-threatening condition.
It was understood that one of the men fell or jumped off the wharf into the water.
When he got into trouble a companion dived in, in an attempt to rescue him, but also got into trouble.
Police said no details of the dead man would be released until his relatives had been told.
